Meet Elisa Martínez, LMFT

The anxiety and inner critic whisperer you’ve been looking for.

“Cookie cutter” therapy? Hard pass.

I’m Elisa (she/her/ella) and a cisgender, mixed-race (Latina/Caucasian) woman. I offer tailor-made, super-individualized therapy so that you can find lasting relief, healing and change. For real.

You’re intelligent, self-aware and pretty good at what you do. Thinking and analyzing is your superpower. You know how to get shit done and people can count on you.

But this can lead to a double-edged sword of OVERthinking, OVERanalyzing, being your own worst critic - and taking on more than your share, if you’re being honest.

You battle negative thoughts and anxiety more than you care to admit. You worry about all the “what-if’s" and doubt yourself. This is energy that could be better spent on climbing out of this hole you're in - and learning how to stop falling back in it.

Ease, inner peace, self-confidence…sounds good, right?

Maybe these are abstract ideals for you, experienced in moments throughout your life, but hard to sustain. You've heard it all: read the right self-help book, exercise more, do yoga, eat better or just TRY HARDER, and then you’ll finally get it together.

Or, you tell yourself that things aren't that bad…that other people have it worse - or that you “should” be able to handle it.

Yet somehow, none of that’s really helped you.

It's not that you’re weak, lazy, flawed or undisciplined.

It’s that all the self-help and ways you "should” all over yourself AREN’T enough to make lasting change. Because life is complicated and you’re a hell of a lot more complex and nuanced than a self-help book!

So, what IS the solution?

I've been doing this long enough to know that with the right mix of motivation, perseverance, courage and really good therapy, life-changing stuff can happen. I've experienced it personally as a client - and see it week after week as a therapist.

You just need the expert support, tools and roadmap to get there. This is exactly what I do!

There’s therapy - and then there’s THERAPY. While there’s a science to healing anxiety, chronic self-doubt and trauma, it’s also a craft. You need a compassionate, experienced, non-judgmental guide who will get in the trenches with you, show you how to get un-stuck, and help you unleash your full, healed potential. When you find a therapist who has the know-how, care, commitment, intuition, and skill that’s aligned with your wants and needs, then a whole new world of possibility opens up.

If you’re ready to dive in, get relief and heal your hurt - then I could just be the therapist for you.

Transformation is the water I swim in and the air I breathe. I know how - and love - to help people just like you to heal. Let’s do this.

How my pain became my passion.

For years I battled harsh inner criticism, severe anxiety and the aftermath of loss, trauma and super painful life experiences. I lived in my own private hell: uncontrollable worry, negative thoughts, hopelessness and overwhelm. I was sinking.

My journey into psychotherapy began as I emerged from this inner battle. My main motivation for getting my Masters degree in Holistic Counseling Psychology? To heal myself - not to become a therapist! But then I discovered that I’m actually good at this and that I. Love. This. Work.

My combination of professional experience and extensive personal growth work with anxiety, self-doubt, burnout and trauma equips me with a unique set of skills, understanding and know-how that, in all humility) makes me good at what I do.

I don't work with every issue under the sun (that is, I’m not a “generalist”). Instead, I work specifically with introspective thinkers, feelers and achievers to help them break free of anxiety, self-doubt, worry, overwhelm, burnout and trauma - and I’m highly invested in doing it well. I want all of my clients to find relief, but more than that - to live as their most fulfilled selves.

Wondering if I can help?

My Guiding Principles

  • Inclusivity

I honor all brains, beings, and bodies. I seek to create a space in which ableism, racism, ageism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, sexism, fatphobia, sexism, misogyny, speciesism and the patriarchy can be safely unpacked and dismantled. You are welcome here!

  • Curiosity

Anxiety, stress and self-criticism cause rigid and negative thinking. This feels bad and actually doesn’t help you find long-term relief and healing. Let’s leverage the neuroscience of curiosity so that you can problem-solve effectively and find freedom from worry and self-judgment!

  • Kindness

Self-criticism is the mind’s way of “helping” you stay on track to avoid disaster - but keeps you from connecting with the self-confidence and calm that’s possible. You can learn a less fear-based approach that feels better and brings lasting change that’s aligned with your deepest values and goals.

  • Effectiveness

I believe that therapy should include proven, “you-friendly” modalities that are tailored to your uniqueness - and actually work. I have an innovative, trauma-informed and culturally-sensitive approach that’s helped my clients find more ease and profound healing. Let’s discover what’s possible!
